Using The Keyphrase

There are several factors that affect SEO indexing and one of the main ones is keyword density. This is essentially what percentage of the entire blogs word count is the keyphrase. You want this to be right around .5%. Now this varies depending on how long the blog is. So keep in mind that you need to incorporate the keywords into both the title, the first sentence of the blog, and at least one of the sub headings. You do however want to avoid spamming the keyword. You also want to include the keywords in a few other places:

  • The web page’s URL
  • The Title description and meta descriptions
  • Alt attributes on any images and sources of media
  • The webpages slug

Tags And Meta Tags

These should be larger categories that you generally talk about more frequently. For example, if the blog is about SEO firms in other cities, you would tag it “SEO” and put it into a similar category. Meta tags are also useful for helping the indexing but again be conscious of how much you are using the keywords. Meta tags are primarily used for things such as the author or the time/date of the post. They are useful in small doses so take advantage of them.

Images Are Your Friends

As always, it is a good idea to incorporate images into your blog. this breaks up the reading and makes the content more rich for the reader. These images can be as simple as just pertaining to the subject but you can also use them to augment what your talking about, provide examples or have a visual aide for comparisons. Videos also do very well in blogs but make sure that they don’t weigh down the page or affect readability. The images should of course have alt attributes that have the keywords and meta tags that describe what is going on in the picture. This will make it much more likely that the image will show up on Google and become a potential back link to your website.

Content Is Key

The single most important thing you can do when you SEO a blog is create quality content. When we say quality content what we mean is long form content that answers a question or fills a need. Google is starting to rank websites with rich content over those with high keyword density and back links. Take advantage of this and fill a need. It is also a good idea to keep your blogs concise and to a single point. Readability should be something you keep in mind as well, especially if you want people to come keep coming back to your blog.
