How To Write A SEO Blog

PromoAffilliates works with numerous bloggers and as such we get asked often how to write a SEO blog. SEO, or search engine optimization is the broad term used for techniques that take advantage of search engines AI’s. Properly SEO’d blogs will be ranked higher on Google and as such get many more views. This is a simple process but several things get looked over by bloggers all the time. It takes months for your blog post to index on Google so if it is not done right then it will be difficult to recover. There are several do’s and don’ts when it comes to how to write a SEO blog but luckily we have you covered.

Picking A Keyphrase

One of the fundamentals to proper SEO is the use of keywords and phrases. In a blog, making the keyword into a phrase is more beneficial because it can be incorporated into the title and description tags more easily. Be sure to research first what your chosen keyphrase is competing with. The more blogs out there with similar keywords or phrases the more competition you will be facing and this is already an uphill battle. You want to aim for under 10k searches per month, that way you can expect to see an increase in ranking within 2 or so months. The keyphrase should also be relevant to the website that it’s posted on and answer a question that the customer base might have.

Using The Keyphrase

There are several factors that affect SEO indexing and one of the main ones is keyword density. This is essentially what percentage of the entire blogs word count is the keyphrase. You want this to be right around .5%. Now this varies depending on how long the blog is. So keep in mind that you need to incorporate the keywords into both the title, the first sentence of the blog, and at least one of the sub headings. You do however want to avoid spamming the keyword. This will have the opposite effect and Google will actually punish the blogs SEO ranking for it.

You also want to include the keywords in a few other places:

  • The web page’s URL
  • The Title description and meta descriptions
  • Alt attributes on any images and sources of media
  • The webpages slug

Tags And Meta Tags

In blogs, tags are extremely useful. Both for organizing the content within the webpage and for providing a clear path for backlinks on other pages. These should be larger categories that you generally talk about more frequently. For example, if the blog is about SEO firms in other cities, you would tag it “SEO” and put it into a similar category. Meta tags are also useful for helping the indexing but again be conscious of how much you are using the keywords. Meta tags are primarily used for things such as the author or the time/date of the post. They are useful in small doses so take advantage of them.

Images Are Your Friends

As always, it is a good idea to incorporate images into your blog. this breaks up the reading and makes the content more rich for the reader. These images can be as simple as just pertaining to the subject but you can also use them to augment what your talking about, provide examples or have a visual aide for comparisons. Videos also do very well in blogs but make sure that they don’t weigh down the page or affect readability. The images should of course have alt attributes that have the keywords and meta tags that describe what is going on in the picture. This will make it much more likely that the image will show up on Google and become a potential back link to your website.

Content Is Key

The single most important thing you can do when you SEO a blog is create quality content. When we say quality content what we mean is long form content that answers a question or fills a need. Google is starting to rank websites with rich content over those with high keyword density and back links. Take advantage of this and fill a need. It is also a good idea to keep your blogs concise and to a single point. Readability should be something you keep in mind as well, especially if you want people to come keep coming back to your blog.

Things That Will Ruin Your SEO

As always there are certain things that you should avoid if you want to index.  Getting behind in your SEO ranking is almost impossible to come back from as it usually takes months to see any improvement. Google looks at some specifics when determining this, however certain things will get your sight instantly punished in way of ranking. Here are a few of the most important ones:

  • Keyword spamming
  • Paid links
  • Overcrowding of ads
  • Hidden text or to many meta tags
  • Guest posts from non authority websites
  • Duplicate content
  • Adding fake comments to the comments section of your blog
  • Loading your blog with so much media that it affects its load time
  • Unnecessary links attached to blog

All in all creating a blog is easy. Making sure that it is SEO’d correctly may be tedious but it is important for driving organic visits and maintaining a steady growth of index factors. We also recommend keeping your page title short as well as keeping the description under 150 characters. When asking how to write a SEO blog, just remember that content is the most important thing. Second to that, if you don’t put the needs of your audience first then landing on the first page of google wont do you a whole lot of good. The SEO standards are constantly changing, but good content will always be worth more in the long run for your blog.
